Anticipation
About a year ago today I was making my final preparations to leave Spain after an incredible semester abroad. In under a week (Sunday, June 5th to be exact), I will be continuing my adventures outside of the United States. This time I will be headed to South America, spending one month in Quito, Ecuador and one month in Cusco, Peru volunteering with a program called United Planet.
My anticipation is mounting. Although I have been preparing for this trip for months, it didn’t seem real until now. I’ve gotten all of my shots/medications (yellow fever, typhoid, and flu shots/malaria pills), I’ve read up on where I’m going, and I’ve even watched a few relevant movies (Qué Tan Lejos, También La Lluvia, etc.)… Now all that’s left to do is pack.
I’m not exactly sure what to expect from this trip, but if I’ve learned one thing from my travels in Europe… it’s that the only thing a traveler can truly anticipate, is the unexpected.
